Couples therapy is a form of therapy used to treat relationship distress for both individuals and couples. Couples may meet together and individually during this process.
The Gottman Method
The Gottman Method is the primary form of relationship therapy that we use.This method of therapy was developed out of research to help partners: Increase respect, affection, and closeness. Break through and resolve conflict when they feel stuck. The Gottman Method is effective for all relationship types.
One on one counseling that is direct, active, personal, and focused on increasing the individual client’s self-understanding and adjustment.
A branch of psychotherapy in which its main treatment involves placing patients in groups and, under the guidance of a trained therapist or coach, encouraging them to discuss their problems with each other. This process is designed to recreate the family dynamic experience and is one of the best forms of treatment for those who have a limited outside support systems, have had traumatic relationship experiences or who have difficult with some interpersonal connections or boundaries.
A branch of psychotherapy that works with families and couples in intimate relationships to nurture change and development. It tends to view change in terms of the systems of interaction between family members. It emphasizes family relationships as an important factor in psychological health.
What kinds of things do people seek help for?
People seek counseling for a variety of reasons including feeling unhappy, unfulfilled, worried, sad, or angry. People also seek out counseling to help change behaviors that are troubling them including addictive or disordered behaviors or behaviors that affect their relationships at home or at work. Some people seek counseling because they have a life goal that has been eluding them and they are ready to explore their barriers. Other people seek out counseling because they know they are going through a difficult time or facing a difficult decision and they desire a place to sort through their feelings and move forward in their life with intention and clear thinking.
How does counseling help?
When a counseling relationship is working well, clients experience new insights into their situations, clearer thinking, increased energy, better understanding of their feelings and needs, release of troubling emotions that have held them back or been confusing, and a greater sense of wholeness and peace within themselves. Therapy is a process, and a working partnership develops between client and therapist. Therapy is not always comfortable or straightforward as difficult emotions and ways of being often have to be sorted through in order for new energy and change to appear. Clients should feel comfortable with their therapist and be able to ask about whatever is on their mind regarding the process. In spite of the uncomfortable emotions experienced, clients I have worked with feel that the temporary pain of the working through process is well worth leaving behind the continual pain of living the way they had previously.

Will anyone know about what I say in counseling?
Counseling is Confidential. In accordance with state and federal law as well as professional and ethical guidelines for mental health providers, we maintain confidential records of all contacts with clients. This means that no identifying information – written or otherwise – about your contact with HarmonyUs will be disclosed to anyone outside of HarmonyUs without your written authorization. This exclusion includes family, friends, work and any other individuals or entities; no one gets to know what you talk about (or even that you are coming here) unless you want them to know. There are some legal exceptions to this confidentiality; they rarely apply but we want you to know about them. If you are under the age of 18, please call for information about our confidentiality policy.
Counselors may need to disclose certain information in 3 specific situations:
1) when you state intent to harm yourself or someone else
2) when you report current abuse or neglect of a vulnerable adult or child
3) as a result of a court order when mental illness is used as a defense in a criminal or civil action.
Does my insurance cover the cost of counseling?
HarmonyUs does submit billing to insurance companies. Many of the services provided at HarmonyUs may not be eligible for insurance coverage. We cannot guarantee that your insurance company will reimburse you for these services. If you have questions, please discuss them with your insurance representative. All charges incurred are your responsibility regardless of whether the services are or are not covered by your insurance company.
